New partnership between Breast Cancer Now and EDF Energy prompts tour

A Deal fundraiser’s tour of Dungeness Power Station marked the beginning of a new partnership between Breast Cancer Now and EDF Energy.

The gas and electricity supplier has chosen Breast Cancer Now as its corporate charity for the next three years, pledging to raise £450,000 for vital research into the disease.

Charity ambassador Kerry Rubins, from Deal, was chosen to meet the new corporate partnerships officer Emma Hett last week.

She was given a tour of the site and a chance to share her fundraising ideas with staff.

She said: “I was invited down to Dungeness Power Station to spend the day meeting staff and chatting with them about fundraising activities. It was a real honour to be chosen.

“Hopefully I have inspired them with lots of fundraising ideas. A few of them have signed up to join us on our annual Crocus Walk.”

Miss Rubins has been organising the sponsored walk for 12 years.

It will be from Julie’s Bench above Walmer Castle gravel pit car park to The White Cliffs Hotel in St Margaret’s, on Saturday, March 25.

Walkers are asked to meet at 10am for a 10.30am start. The stroll back is optional.

Entry is £5 and includes a complimentary buffet, courtesy of The White Cliffs Hotel proprietor Gavin Oakley.
