Alfie and Jack Gayton, Thomas Seldon and Lee Walker sentenced for revenge attack outside Dartford nightclub

Four men - one of whom is registered blind - have been jailed after they launched a revenge attack outside a nightclub.

Alfie Gayton, 21, attacked Jordan Nicoll, 21, with a glass, severing part of his ear, and his brother Jack, 25, Thomas Seldon, 20, and Lee Walker, 20, waded in with kicks and punches.

Ellie Thomas, 20, who is studying at university to be a paramedic, also kicked the victim but pulled some of the other attackers away.

The five, all from Dartford, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court for sentence.

Alfie Gayton, of Ribblesdale Road, and Seldon, of Dene Road, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and were jailed for three years and four months.

Walker, of Olive Road, Jack Gayton, of Ribblesdale Road, and Thomas, of North Road, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Walker and Gayton were sentenced to 20 months and Thomas to 14 months suspended for two years with 100 hours unpaid work.

A judge said CCTV footage of the attack outside Industry nightclub in Spital Street, Dartford, on January 26 last year “made unpleasant viewing”.

Prosecutor Craig Evans said Mr Nicoll had been concerned about a group of men looking at him while inside the club.

The victim was leaving at 2.30am when Alfie Gayton ran up to and smashed a glass from the club over his head. He fell to the ground and the others set about him.

He suffered multiple cuts to his head with a piece missing from his ear lobe. He also had a black eye.

The attack was made because Alfie Gayton believed Mr Nicoll had been involved in an assault on him the previous year.

Judge Adele Williams said when passing sentence: “This case demonstrates the considerable perils of having too much to drink and losing all judgement and common sense as a result.

“Mercifully, the injuries were not as serious as they could have been.”

The judge said Thomas played a limited part but the conviction may have put her planned career as a paramedic in severe danger.

Because of Jack Gayton’s sight problems, prison would be difficult for him, she added.

James Murray-Smith, for Thomas, said she acted out of a misguided sense of loyalty to her boyfriend, Seldon. She was angry and went over to pull people away.

But she kicked the victim while he was on the ground.

“The bitter irony is she is going to be a paramedic,” said Mr Murray-Smith. “She would lose her career if sentenced to imprisonment.

“The London ambulance service are indicating they want no more to do with her in the light of this offence. It is disastrous for her. The conviction will have a serious effect on her career.”
