Man and dog rescued from house fire in Dartford

An elderly man and his dog have been rescued from a house fire.

The homeowner, in his 80s, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters needed breathing apparatus to enter the two-storey property, in Heath Lane, Dartford, which was said to be "well alight" - despite crews arriving within six minutes of being alerted.

It started at around 4.20pm on the ground floor, and took more than an hour to bring under control.

The cause as yet remains unknown.
