Banned driver jailed after riding child's moped

A man has been jailed after riding a child’s moped while banned from driving.

Sam Hornby was spotted on the bike in Alamein Gardens, Stone, and later charged with driving whilst disqualified.

The 22-year-old, of Park Road, Dartford, was also charged with having no insurance.

Hornby pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared at Dartford Magistrates’ Court in June last year, and was committed to crown court for sentencing.

But he did not attend the hearing and was later charged with failing to surrender to the court.

Hornby pleaded guilty to the additional offence when he stood before Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, January 26 - more than a year after the original incident, which took place on January 19 last year.

He was sentenced to 14 months and 14 days in prison.
