Thousands expected for 10-mile run

MORE than 1,000 runners are expected for the Barretts-sponsored Canterbury 10-mile race, hosted by Invicta East Kent, on Sunday, January 25.

Race director John Batty is expecting a good quality field, including Michael Coleman and Barry Royden, who led the challenge for the county cross country title last weekend.

He said: “This is one of Kent’s premier races. It’s a fantastic course, fast, undulating and scenic.

“The course will be the same as last year but we will have even better finishing arrangments, with the finish moved into the grounds of Canterbury College. It is run on good terrain, without having to go off road.

“We particularly attract runners preparing for the London Marathon, because a 10-mile race at this stage fits in well with a training schedule.”

The course runs along the North Downs Way to Bridge and Bekesbourne and back.

Mr Batty said: “We are delighted with the continuing sponsorship from Barretts, and the co-operation of Canterbury College which allows us to stage the race in Canterbury.”

Entry forms are available on the website http://www.invictaeastkentac.org.uk or in this week's Kentish Gazette and Faversham News.

Entries must be in by Monday, January 19.
