The Canterbury KM Big Quiz was a
stunning success with a record amount raised for good causes.

The mammoth wine and wisdom night
was staged at the Body and Mind Sports Centre on Friday night and
raised £12,200 for the League of Friends at Kent & Canterbury
Hospital, Kent Walking Bus, Lady Mayoress of Canterbury’s Charity
Appeal and the Gazette’s charity of the year Kent Multiple
Sclerosis Therapy Centre.

It is the 10th year the event has
been staged in the city and attracted a record 85 teams to join in
the night, including this paper’s reporting team.

Scoring a stunning 90 per cent of correct answers,
the team Deirdre Barlow’s Neck Muscles won the KM Big Quiz
Trophy.

Team captain Steve Lilley received
his trophy and prizes, including P&O Ferries vouchers and wine
donated by Tesco, Faversham, by event sponsors Andy Page of
Churchfield Homecare Services and Kate Teasdale of Parry Law.

Mr Lilley said: “We had a couple of
lucky guesses, but we also have a couple of new team members who
made big difference and helped us win this year.

“And we will be back again next
year.”

Deirdre Barlow’s Neck Muscles will
join the two second-placed teams Supernova and The Bonney Cravat
from Woodchurch in the county final of the KM Big Quiz in December
when they will compete against top placed teams from the Maidstone,
Ashford and Medway event due to be staged later this year.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity
Team, which staged the event, said: “It is amazing to see how this
successful event has grown and the breathtaking amount of funds
each event raises for good causes. All the team and volunteers who
helped stage the event are so proud of this achievement.”
