Two men were taken to a London hospital on Saturday morning with 'life threatening' injuries following separate accidents on major roads around Canterbury.

The first happened on the A28 at Chartham shortly after 7am and involved two vehicles.

The road was closed while the emergency services attended the scene and a male driver was taken by land ambulance to the King's Hospital in London.

The road remains closed until at least lunchtime while accident investigators examine the scene.

Forty minutes later there was a three vehicle pile-up on the A257 at Littlebourne which was also closed.

A man was airlifted to the King's Hospital by Kent Air Ambulance and again the road was closed for several hours while an investigation was carried out.
