Life on the front line with soldiers from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (5 Scots) features in a new Sky1 series starting this Sunday.

Ross Kemp: Return to Afghanistan sees the former EastEnders actor turned documentary maker go into battle with members of Delta Company during their intense six-month tour of Helmand Province last year.

The five-part series is a follow-up to the 2008 BAFTA award winning show Ross Kemp in Afghanistan, which featured troops from the Royal Anglian Regiment.

During his time in Helmand, Ross and his film crew were involved in regular battles with the Taliban around the town of Musa Qualeh.

Within 30 minutes of being on the ground, Ross and Delta Company found themselves involved in a well-orchestrated Taliban ambush.

"We just had to adapt to what we encountered," said Ross.

He added: "Almost from the moment we got there, we were face down on the ground under constant Taliban fire.

"You just have to get through it. It's amazing how much energy you can find when someone's trying to shoot at you."

The former Mitchell brother was also full of praise for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

He said: "They looked after us, we could have been hurt if it hadn't been for the intervention of these remarkable men."

Meanwhile, the men of Delta Company also had praise for how Ross and his crew handled themselves on the battlefield.

Sgt Scott McPhail said: "You can tell he (Ross Kemp) had done a lot of research and he knew exactly what was going on."

Ross also took time out to meet the wives and families of the men and was present at both their homecoming last November and the Freedom of the City parade through Canterbury in December.

Unit press officer Cpt Stevie Rae said: "It was a nice touch that Ross was there for our families as well and he got to see how they battle with the men being away for such a long time.

"He spent a lot of time speaking to them all and getting to know them and it was fantastic to see."
