Road remains closed for gas repairs

Part of Castle Street in Canterbury remains closed for repairs to a gas main.

The work should be completed this week to the stretch between Wincheap roundabout and Rosemary Lane.

Castle Street was closed on Friday and diversions have been set up.

A spokesman for Southern Gas Networks said they first became aware of the problem last Tuesday and began carrying out work on the site.

“We dug up the road and came across an open-ended electrical cable so had to call the electricity board for that to be dealt with,” she said.

“We are now finishing the job and hope to have everything completed soon.”
