A man who allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road at high speeds as he fled police, before repeatedly ramming a patrol car, has been arrested.
Police say officers approached what they describe as a suspicious vehicle in the Blean Common area of Canterbury at about 11.15pm last night.
The vehicle was a Citroen Saxo and reportedly made off from officers when they ordered the driver to stop.
An extensive area search was carried out and at round 12.30am the car was found again on the Thanet Way, approaching the Greenhill roundabout.
A pursuit of the vehicle was authorised by senior police and the car was seen driving on the wrong side of the road and at excessive speeds.
Officers followed it to Fountain Street, Whitstable, where it then hit the police car on more than one occasion until it came to a stop.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "The driver, a 21-year-old man from Herne Bay, was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, dangerous driving, criminal damage and driving without any insurance.
"He remains in custody."
