Work starts on shared space parking bays

Work is under way to make parking restrictions clearer in Ashford’s shared space.

This includes installing additional signs and road lining to mark out the disabled, loading and pay and display bays plus the area’s taxi rank.

Ashford Borough Council is also making minor changes to parking and waiting regulations, which will be combined with proposals to:

Reconfigure parking bays in East Street to allow for changes resulting from the new Latitude Walk housing development.

Extend the no waiting restrictions along Gasworks Lane to protect access to the railway.

Slightly altering the location of the loading bay fronting the Oranges pub in Godinton Road. This is to improve the line of sight for traffic coming in and out of the access next to Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Godinton House.

Consultation on the amendments run from next Thursday to April 23.

Paul Jackson, head of environmental services, said: “We trust the long awaited work to mark the bays in the shared space will make things clearer for motorists.”

He stressed that waiting and loading restrictions were in place within the despite no yellow lines.

Shared space, which is meant to have little or no road signs or markings, is already classed as a restricted parking zone.
