Highways England will upgrade traffic lights at M20 junction 10

Highways chiefs have vowed to fix faulty traffic lights which are leaving ambulances and motorists stuck in traffic at a busy roundabout.

Drivers have faced delays at junction 10 of the M20, where roads such as the A20, A259 and A2070 converge.

The roundabout is also the principal roundabout for traffic getting to and from the William Harvey Hospital, the Tesco superstore at Crooksfoot, and the Ashford Retail Park at Sevington.

At some of the traffic lights, the signals only stay green for a matter of seconds, leading to a scramble to get through while tailbacks build up behind.

But now Highways England says it will be taking action to solve the problem at the busy junction.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of an issue with the lights at this junction and will be upgrading the operating system on the traffic signals within the next few weeks.

“These works will improve the flow of traffic at this junction as well as giving us the ability to remotely monitor the congestion.”
